Here's an info pack for everyone coming to Tipping Points #13. The most important information can be found in the registration details. If you’ve read those and still have questions, hopefully you’ll find an answer here.
Where will Tipping Points #13 take place?
Our venue is the 4lthangrund Cultural Center, which has two locations in Vienna’s 9th and 20th districts. Check-in, the entire evening program, and the Awareness Room are located at Nordbergstraße 8. If it’s your first time attending Tipping Points #13, stop by there to find out all the details!
Please arrive 30 minutes before the start time of your workshop the first time, so there is enough time to check in and, if necessary, change rooms. If you arrive later for subsequent workshops, please always arrive 10 minutes before the start time.
Do I have to register in advance?
Yes. The sooner, the better. We guarantee you a spot in your favorite workshop if you register by November 8.
Tipping Points is organized so that the workshops, the size of the rooms, the number of meals prepared, translation services when needed, the Helping Hands and Awareness teams, and communication about changes, cancellations, and rescheduling are all tailored to those who (want to). Please register
Why do I have to come so early?
Yes. We need some time before the first workshop because
- To visit the 4lthangrund Cultural Center, you must have a membership, which you can purchase on-site. There may also be lines before the start times.
- Our Check-In is important so that we can plan and communicate meal arrangements, workshop sizes, and any schedule changes. We also want to ensure that everyone is aware of the Awareness concept and that their needs can be accommodated whenever possible.
- Workshops at Tipping Points start on time , which means that participants must be in the correct room before the workshop begins.
But what if I can't or don't want to come after all?
No problem—just send us an email. The sooner, the better. There are no cancellation fees or anything like that.
In addition, this time we need to ask EVERYONE (regardless of whether you’re coming or not / have registered or not / have canceled or not) if they can support us with donations. This is, first of all, because despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure enough funding to cover all expenses. Second, we always want to keep Tipping Points potentially free of charge—for everyone who needs it. It should never come down to a lack of money.
Those who can't pay don't pay; those who can give only a little give less. But that also means that those who can must donate more so that the numbers add up.
Is food included?
Yes and no. Tipping Points is donation-based overall. Please donate to both the program and meals according to your means. Dinner will be provided for all attendees (Friday, Saturday), as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Donations for these go into the same fund as contributions for the workshops and thus also help cover the costs of food, cooking, workshop fees, etc.
There will be a charity brunch on Sunday. The donations collected for this event will not go to Tipping Points, and we’d be happy if we could raise a nice sum again. More details will be available on-site and here in the “Supporting Program”.
All meals are vegan. Please let us know about any dietary restrictions when you register—please register as early as possible! Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special dietary requests for registrations received after November 15.
Are there places to sleep, too?
It is not possible to stay overnight at the venue. There will also be no central accommodation exchange this time. Ideally, you should arrange your own accommodations through your contacts. If that is not possible, please write to us or indicate your needs on the registration form. Unfortunately, requests for accommodations from all registrations received after November 15 cannot be accommodated.
What should I bring?
In general, we'll leave that up to you and don't want to provide a definitive packing list here. Some suggestions include:
- Schreibzeug
- Flyer, Sticker, Magazine etc. von deiner Gruppe
- Buch- und Veranstaltungstipps
- Bargeld für den Soli Brunch
- Falls du hast: ein Fahrrad zum Wechsel zwischen den Locations
- …
Does Tipping Points offer childcare?
Yes, it's planned for Saturday during the workshop hours. Please indicate your interest in this when you register online.
How will I find out about program changes if, for example, I don't arrive until early Saturday morning and am worried that my specific workshop might have been canceled?
You can find out about changes, rescheduling, and cancellations (a) at the information desk by the check-in table (right at the entrance—so be sure to arrive early) and (b) on Instagram, depending on the relevance. There may always be last-minute changes due to illness, etc., and the rooms or buildings may change.
Do I need to register for the side events as well?
Yes, we'd love to hear from everyone who signs up so we can plan better! But if you've already signed up for workshops and just want to stay longer, that's no problem.
Is there any documentation? I'd really like to learn about all the workshop topics!
About 10 days after Tipping Points, we publish all materials that speakers provide to us here. Some speakers prefer not to share their materials publicly; in that case, they send them only to those in attendance.
Do I have to work as a helping hand?
No, if you're not able to help out (for whatever reason), you don't have to. At the same time, we'd love it if as many people as possible took on shifts—that way, the workload is spread out among more people.
Als Helping Hands Aufgaben gibt es:
- Kochen helfen
- Awareness-Schichten
- Raumbetreuung
- Infotisch betreuen
- Aufbau (beginnt am Donnerstag vor Tipping Points) und Transporte
If you think you can volunteer for 3 hours or more this weekend, please indicate that on the registration form!
