‘Tipping Points’ are weekends full of workshops and debates on methods and skills for activists of progressive social movements in Austria and have been taking place since November 2019. A diverse programme on group facilitation, action planning and training, legal aid, press work, strategy development, sustainable activism, safe communication, campaign planning and skill share time is complemented by content inputs and a stimulating supporting programme. There will also be an opportunity to network with various groups and initiatives from all over Austria.
Tipping Points is an event organized by Humus – fertile soil for change with changing cooperation partners. The first three editions were organized together with System Change, not Climate Change. Additional supporters are or have always been local groups at the event locations (hence changing) or friendly collectives such as sixtopia, Infoladen Kurkuma, Spektral in Graz or the Fridays for Future local group in Salzburg.

Our History
- TP #1 takes place in Graz in November 2019 and is a great success.
- TP #2 is planned for the end of March 2020 in Salzburg, but the first hard lockdown gets in the way. We quickly put together a small online edition.
- Tipping Times is born, an ongoing series of online workshops from April to early June 2020. Lockdown time...
- TP #3 is planned (again) in Salzburg—and again, a lockdown gets in the way. We quickly create an online version, the lockdown edition no. 2.
- Tipping Points #4 took place at the end of February 2021, as planned online.
- Due to high demand, Tipping Points #5 took place online and in a hybrid format in June 2021.
- Tipping Points #6 took place in Linz in November 2021 – this time, the lockdown came into effect the very next day!
- Tipping Points #7 took place in Innsbruck in June 2022, finally heading west!
- Tipping Points #8 took place in Vienna in February 2023.
- Tipping Points #9 took place in Salzburg in December 2023.
- Tipping Points #10 came (back) to Graz in June 2024.
- Tipping Points #11 took place in Vienna in November 2024.
- Tipping Points #12 took place in Salzburg in October 2025.

Why is this important to us?
Our focus is on skills and methods rather than content, because Tipping Points wants to empower people in social movements and offer tools to the many activists—especially young ones—who are working to make the world a better place. You bring the topics! We also want to bring different groups together and enable networking beyond individual topics. Focusing on one topic or one struggle would make our wide range of offerings less interesting for other groups. Come one, come all! 🙂
