As a warm-up event for Tipping Points #13 (“Resistance Together”) in November, we invite you to an exciting evening and an in-depth workshop focusing on the resistance practices of the Cecosesola cooperative in Venezuela. After all, “together” also means drawing inspiration from one another and not always having to reinvent the wheel.
Come join us—over the course of two sessions, we’ll explore what we can learn from Cecosesola for our own contexts:

Cecosesola was founded in 1967 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and is a nonprofit cooperative umbrella organization. It comprises over 50 community organizations and has more than 1,500 members.
Together, they take care of one another and provide each other with: health care, food markets, agriculture, funeral services, a school, a savings bank, and even more businesses—thus supporting hundreds of thousands of people. Cecosesola deliberately operates without fixed hierarchies, with rotating roles and consensus-based decision-making. In 2022, they were awarded the Right Livelihood Award (“alternative Nobel Prize”), in part for their long-standing resilience and strength, even during economic crises.
On November 5 and 6, Commons researchers Sigi and Luis will share their insights and discuss with us what they found during their visits at Cecosesola’s cooperatives.
